The 2-Day Piercing Course at Essex Piercing Academy is designed for beauty, hair, and wellness professionals who want to add professional body piercing to their service offering. Unlike courses that pad the curriculum with unnecessary content, we focus exclusively on what you need: the knowledge and practical skills to pierce safely, professionally, and with confidence.

Day one is dedicated to the theory that underpins safe piercing: UK legislation, health and safety, sterilisation, jewellery standards, client consent, and studio management. We also cover how to set up your own piercing service, how to market yourself as a piercer, and where to source trade and wholesale supplies.

Day two is an immersive, hands-on practical session in our live studio environment. You'll practise on piercing dummies first to build confidence, then move on to live models (including the option to bring your own, aged 18+). You leave with real-world experience, not just a certificate.

Day One: Theory

Foundation Knowledge & Safety

Introduction to body piercing: history, industry overview, and earning potential
UK legislation, licences, laws, and insurance requirements
Health & safety in the studio
Hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, and PPE
Sterilisation techniques and autoclave operation
Waste disposal for sharps and clinical waste
Piercing consent and client documentation
Piercing types, jewellery materials, and sizing
Studio setup, cleaning, and explanation of equipment
Handling tools, needles, and jewellery correctly
Preparing and breaking down your piercing station
Marking up piercing positions accurately
Setting up your piercing business and marketing yourself
Trade and wholesale sourcing for accessories and equipment
Theory test, typically end of Day 1 (may move to Day 2 morning)

Day Two: Practical

Hands-On Studio Training

Setting up a fully sterile, professional workstation
Practising all placements on piercing dummies to build confidence
Reference guide: all piercings above the waist and how to perform them
Difficult piercings: technique, potential risks, and how to manage them
Confidence building, from first practice to live environment
How to manage nervous, anxious, or first-time clients
Live piercing on models in a real active studio environment
Students may bring their own models (must be aged 18+)
Aftercare guidance and client communication
Practical assessment and certification

Please note: Day 2 is intensive and may overrun past 5pm. If you need to finish by 5pm, inform your instructor in advance so live practical time can be arranged accordingly.

No prior piercing experience required, as we start from the foundations
You must be aged 18 or over
A willingness to participate in hands-on practical work, including piercing and being pierced, is required
If you wish to bring your own model for the live practical session, they must be aged 18 or over
Comfortable, practical clothing is recommended throughout, particularly on the practical day
